This webinar will review current evidence on PrEP use, and then highlight a recent NIH initiative which called for research applications on “Improving the HIV PrEP Cascade” (RFAMH-17-360 and 361). The initiative sought research to help speed PrEP access and uptake, support PrEP medication adherence and care retention, and prioritize key populations and reduce disparities in PrEP use. Research awards newly underway through this initiative will pioneer work in underserved populations, test innovative approaches to improve PrEP care engagement, and address important provider and care-system factors related to PrEP use.
This webinar will review HIV testing technologies, the importance of screening for acute HIV infection in PrEP programs, and the growing data on the impact of PrEP on HIV tests during seroconversion. We will review some of the translational science around PrEP and HIV testing and discuss some of the remaining implementation science questions on the topic.
